A Powerful Approach to Negative Behaviors, with Marc Brackett

When kids get activated and use disrespectful language or aggressive behavior, traditional parenting tells us to discipline the child.

But the traditional approach misses several important elements.

Listen as Marc Brackett, PhD, author of Permission to Feel: Unlocking the Power of Emotions to Help Our Kids, Ourselves and Society Thrive tells us why it's crucial to dig deeper so we can teach our kids:

  • how to calm down
  • how to label their feelings
  • how to communicate their feelings
  • how to learn strategies to reduce unpleasant feelings

It's our obligation as parents to get to the root cause of our kids' states so we can be their safe place to land if they're getting bullied or having a hard time.

Take a listen.

P.S. Help your kids learn self-regulation in our upcoming executive function classes for kids and teens.

Dr. Bracket has fantastic insight and suggestions. After watching this Im looking him up and ordering his book! I have a 9 year old boy who behaves in a similar way to what he has described and I’m determined to get to the root cause. Thanks Dr. Brackett!

Always grateful when these brief encounters arrive in my email. A single, elderly adult who is targeted, I attend B&Q for myself to help me parent myself in difficult circumstances. I really needed to hear, be with Marc Bracket today. Thanks.

This was so great, thank you Dr. Bracket. When I worked in mental health I always encouraged parents to pull their kids from places if they were being bullied. Because it is extremely difficult for an individual to overcome their environment. So then they’re just trapped in a toxic environment which traumatizes them, degraded them, and causes long-lasting damage. Love and comfort and support kids. “They are not giving us a hard time, they are *having* a hard time.”
