Message from Debbie

Hi, I’m Debbie Steinberg Kuntz, licensed marriage and family therapist and founder of Bright & Quirky. I’m really glad you’ve found us! When I started my family counseling practice a decade ago, I had no idea this would be my specialty. But my sons, now teenagers, had some unique strengths and challenges that I dove deeply into understanding.

I learned that they were ‘2e’ or ‘twice exceptional,’ meaning they are smart and also have unique brain wiring that makes accessing those smarts at times challenging.  As I researched and found solutions for them, I started to share the learning with families in my private practice near Seattle. You may know that in the Seattle area, we have many highly skilled, uniquely wired people working for nearby high tech companies (i.e. Amazon, Microsoft).  My practice includes many such families, eager for information on raising 2e kids.

To meet the need, I created in-person support groups for parents raising 2e kids. Their kids are very bright and struggle with learning, executive function, social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Some have diagnoses such as ADHD, autism/Aspergers, anxiety, depression and learning disabilities like dyslexia.

In the winter of 2018, I decided to try an experiment and run a similar 2e parenting program online. I made my dream team list of 25 experts, thinking maybe a handful would agree to speak.  In the end, almost all agreed to speak, and it became the Bright & Quirky Child Online Summit, attracting over 15,000 people from 95 countries.

2e is a very nichey thing effecting less than 1% of the population under 18. If you’ve got a 2e child, chances are you feel like many of the parents I work with – isolated on a journey most people don’t understand, frustrated that typical parenting strategies don’t work,  feeling the pain of your child not fitting in with friends or academically, and exhausted trying to bring more calm and peace at home.

Please know that you are not alone and help is here.

There are three immediate steps you can take:

STEP 2: View talks from the 2020 Bright & Quirky Summit.
STEP 3: Join our Facebook page and help co-create this beautiful Bright & Quirky movement around the world.

I look forward to working with you to ease the struggle and build the best life possible for your kids and family.
